Team captain: Jordan Kay

About

On Sunday, 10th May 4 brave members of Wolfguard are walking the length of the island in historical clothing based on the Norse/Danes from 9th to 11th centuries.

Rekkr, Nix, Bjorn and Harldr will be wearing:

  • Heavy linnen/wool Kyrtles
  • Linnen under Kyrtles
  • Linnen/wool Thorsberg or Rus trousars
  • Wollen winingas aka leg/calf wraps
  • + some modern shoes as they are vikings not mad men !

The Isle of Wight was a frequent target for Viking raids and served as a crucial winter base for fleets of longships. The 'Anglo-Saxon Chronicle' records the Vikings using the Island as a staging point to raid Hampshire and Sussex, though surprisingly few, if any, Viking artifacts have been discovered here.
